WINDOWS TO THE CLASSICS is a television-style chat show concentrating

entirely on the world of classical music. The program is created and

hosted by musicologist and documentary filmmaker RICHARD

WINTER-STANBRIDGE, who draws his audiences inside the music, helping

them to understand and appreciate it through interaction with his

guests and audience. All the presentations at the Park La Brea Theatre

are followed by a reception and a further opportunity for audience

members to discuss and review the evening’s subject with the host and

Since all programs are recorded for subsequent multi-media broadcast,

WTTC has just decided to change its policy regarding audience

attendance. As from today’s program, there will be no longer be a

charge for tickets. They will be FREE to the general public and as

usual they will have the opportunity of interacting with the whole

proceedings. Tickets are limited and are distributed on a first come,

first served basis. WTTC will however, appeal, for donations to help

support this venture and audiences can give at their discretion, or

simply enjoy the events.

The orchestra iPalpiti (ee-PAHL-pit-ee, Italian for “heartbeat”) draws

its members from prize-winning musicians of international

competitions. iPalpiti has played to acclaim in leading concert halls

throughout the world. The iPalpiti Festival of International Laureates

takes place at various venues throughout the City, and culminates in

an evening concert by the full orchestra in the Walt Disney Concert

Hall, this summer on Saturday, July 26, 2008. 

 

Twenty-four selected artists have arrived in Los Angeles from 19

countries for the 11th annual iPalpiti Festival of International

Since its founding in 1948 by MABEL MASSINGIL GUNN, the Southeast

Symphony Association, Inc. (SESA) began as an African-American

organization and remains so predominantly; however, SESA is fortunate

to have participation and support from diverse ethnicities. The free

classical music concerts, educational programs, scholarships, outreach

to public school students and senior citizens, and its Saturday

Conservatory are all woven into the fabric of SESA’s reason for being.

During the Academy’s Summer School and Festival, Music Academy of the

West brings to audiences masterclasses, chamber music, recitals,

orchestra concerts, and two fully staged performances of William

Bolcom’s comic opera A Wedding, at various Santa Barbara venues – all

open to the public.

 

The MUSIC ACADEMY OF THE WEST, founded in 1947, is one of the

country’s premier summer music schools for gifted young musicians,

primarily of college and graduate-school age. As a full-scholarship

institution, the school selects its students based on their musical

merit. The setting is the beautiful Montecito estate Miraflores.

Organist at Westwood Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles since 1999,

NAMHEE HAN has performed throughout Southern California including

Saint James Episcopal Church of Los Angeles, the First Congregational

Church of Los Angeles, and Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. She

was a featured artist at the National Convention of the American Guild

of Organists (AGO) in 2004. A native of South Korea, Namhee Han began

organ study with THOMAS HARMON, and has since completed her Master’s

and Doctoral degrees in organ performance at UCLA, studying with Dr.

CHRISTOPH BULL. Prior to attending UCLA, she earned a Bachelor of Arts

from Seoul National University in Korea.

The ZELTSMAN MARIMBA FESTIVAL is the brainchild of Artistic

Director/marimbist NANCY ZELTSMAN. It is an annual, two-week event

that occurs during July in different locations. 

 

The seventh edition of ZELTSMAN MARIMBA FESTIVAL presents a series of

eight concerts featuring renowned faculty, special guests, and

emerging marimba stars. They’ll perform music ranging from classical

and contemporary to jazz, in solo and chamber music settings. The

featured instrument will be the marimba as well as its cousins, the

vibraphone and the MalletKAT (an electronic mallet keyboard).

 

Concert tickets: $10 / $7 students and seniors.

School of Music, ALTHEA WAITES has appeared as soloist and chamber

musician on the world’s leading concert stages. She has also appeared

in recital at major festivals such as Aspen, Tanglewood, the Yale

Summer Festival, and the Idyllwild Arts Festival. Althea is Professor

of Piano at California State University Long Beach and is organist and

Since its founding in 1948 by MABEL MASSINGIL GUNN, the Southeast

Symphony Association, Inc. (SESA) began as an African-American

organization and remains so predominantly; however, SESA is fortunate

to have participation and support from diverse ethnicities. The free

classical music concerts, educational programs, scholarships, outreach

to public school students and senior citizens, and its Saturday

Conservatory are all woven into the fabric of SESA’s reason for being.

SIMONE VITUCCI has appeared in concert and television broadcasts in

Europe, North America, and her native South Africa. In addition to

numerous recitals across North America and Europe, she has made solo

appearances with the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra. Along with degrees

from the Universities of Miami and Notre Dame, she studied with ALDO

PARISOT at Yale. A past prizewinner of the SASOL and UNISA music

competitions in South Africa, Ms. Vitucci has, since moving to the

United States, been the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts

SAMUEL SALVADOR SORIA has been the organist of the Cathedral of Our

Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles since its dedication in 2002. Mr.

Soria is a graduate of Valparaiso and Northwestern Universities. In

addition to study with PHILIP GEHRING and WOLFGANG RÜBSAM, he has been

coached privately by JEAN GUILLOU, NAJI HAKIM, and PAUL MANZ,

concentrating on the art of organ improvisation. Samuel is a

prize-winner in the J.S. Bach International Competition at the Kennedy

Center, Washington, D.C., and was also a prizewinner in the American

Guild of Organists Improvisation Competition at Trinity Church, New

York.

ISAMU NAKASHIO has performed throughout the U.S., Japan, Canada, and

Europe, including his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall in

February of 1998. Isamu earned a Bachelor’s degree from the New

England Conservatory in Boston, and studied at Mannes College of Music

in New York and Yale University, where he earned two Master’s degrees

of music in performance. He also has four diplomas from Mozarteum

summer academy in Salzburg, Austria. Isamu currently lives in Orange

County and is a faculty member at both Cerritos and Santa Ana

Mezzo-soprano CHRISTINE AVILA, whose singing and acting career spans

three decades, has sung at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall,

performed the role of Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar at the

Opera House, Washington D.C., and currently sings at St. Joan of Arc

Church.

 

Christine will be joined by Colburn School faculty pianist JEFFREY

LAVNER, who earned his Bachelor’s degree at Syracuse University and

his Master’s at USC.

 

Free admission, donations appreciated. Proceeds will benefit the music

department of St. Joan of Arc Church. Reception food stylings by
